About Me

My Mission

We each have a unique opportunity to impact the world in our own sphere of influence. My purpose in writing is to encourage you to think, to dream, to believe.  God is good. He is present and available to every one of us. Because of that, you are powerful and vital. I challenge you to see power in the ordinary events and opportunities that you encounter every day.

Who Am I?

I grew up in a modest rural part of NC and now live in Denver, CO.

Along my journey, I have experienced the prominence of national visibility and the obscurity of raising and homeschooling my five children in a small mountain community in NC. I’ve battled and overcome chronic pain, and now enjoy an active lifestyle with a backdrop of the beautiful Rocky Mountains. I love to see God’s hand in the simple things of nature: a blooming flower, a drop of water, a fading sunset. That means you’ll see lots of those photos along with these references in my writing. With a science and math college education, my nerdiness sometimes peeks through my writing. I believe all my strengths and weaknesses can be used, just like yours. I am in process: winning, failing, learning, growing. I invite you to journey alongside me as we discover how to be powerful.

My World

I am married for 28 years to a wonderful man, Steve. He has loved me and challenged me through every messy phase of my life. Steve was a prominent minister for 20 years and published a bestselling book on hearing and understanding God’s voice. He has several successful businesses. You can find out more about him by clicking here.  Together we have five diverse, spirited, accomplished children. Currently, my oldest, Jon, is a business technology consultant with Deloitte in the DC area, having graduated cum laude at the University of SC. He loves national parks and great books. My second son, Josh, is an avid photographer and is wrapping up his college trek in Chemistry at the USC. He has a quiet strength and loves all things vintage. Madison is working on her engineering degree at California Baptist University. She loves the beach and soccer. She packs a powerful punch in her 5’3 frame. Moriah and Olivia are currently in high school. They are still discovering their passions and their gifts (aren’t we all?). Moriah loves to sing and worship and is a stabilizer of sorts in the family, easy going and happy. Olivia is exploring visual art in every medium and is very environmentally conscious. She loves hugs and giving handmade gifts. We have 4 pets: Winnie, our golden doodle, Phoebe the cat, Sherlock the red-eared aquatic turtle, and Eugene, the Holland lop-eared bunny.
